Focus Groups

The Focus Group method is a three-step process:

  1. Identifying people interested in the government channel.

  2. Introducing the local channel concept.

  3. Identifying the types of shows and services of interest to those individuals.

During a focus group session, an average of 10 participants meet with a facilitator for a few hours. Larger focus groups, or "Workshops," can include 30 to 40 participants. Responses are gathered from written notes, audio or videotape for later analysis.

Pros: Can be highly entertaining and yields direct feedback quickly.

Cons: Unclear whether the educational component of introducing the local channel concept influences the expressed interests of the participants.
